The American

The American

The suspense thriller The American stars Academy Award winner George Clooney in the title role for director Anton Corbijn (Control). The screenplay by Rowan Joffe is adapted from Martin Booths 1990 novel A Very Private Gentleman.

As an assassin, Jack (played by Mr. Clooney) is constantly on the move and always alone. After a job in Sweden ends more harshly than expected for this American abroad, Jack retreats to the Italian countryside. He relishes being away from death for a spell as he holes up in a small medieval town. While there, Jack takes an assignment to construct a weapon for a mysterious contact, Mathilde (Thekla Reuten).

Savoring the peaceful quietude he finds in the mountains of Abruzzo, Jack accepts the friendship of local priest Father Benedetto (Paolo Bonacelli) and pursues a torrid liaison with a beautiful woman, Clara (Violante Placido). Jack and Claras time together evolves into a romance, one seemingly free of danger. But by stepping out of the shadows, Jack may be tempting fate.

Brothers and Sisters, Season 4

Brothers and Sisters, Season 4

Brothers & Sisters is like that awkward family reunion, where everyone is airing their dirty secrets at the dinner table. The thing is, with the Walkers, they're dropping these bombshells at every meal. The Walkers appear to be the perfect all-American family, but it's up to matriarch Nora Walker (Sally Field) to hold everyone together as they cross paths with divorce, infidelity, addiction, war, politics, prejudice and death.

There's Kitty Walker (Calista Flockhart) who's switched career paths, cheated on her previous fianc and has adopted a child with her new hubby, hunky politician Robert McCallister (Rob Lowe). There's Kevin Walker(Matthew Rhys), who's openly gay and Uncle Saul (Ron Rifkin), who's dealing with coming out of the closet late in life. And even the mistress of Nora's late husband, Holly Harper (Patricia Wettig), has become part of the family since she has a stake in the family business, Ojai Foods and her daughter Rebecca (Emily Van Camp) is engaed to the youngest Walker Justin (Dave Annable). Who knows what other family members might creep up--there seems to be an endless supply of affairs and illegitimate offspring being paraded out in the wine-soaked, soapy world of the Walkers.

But don't dismiss Brothers & Sisters as a family-crisis-of-the-week program. For all of the dysfunctional drama, the Walkers know that the family that drinks together, stays together. As the empty wine bottles pile up, the lips loosen and the secrets pour out just as fast as the vino. While wed give anything to attend one of their raucous dinner parties, we all know wed be better off posting our deep dark secrets on Facebook than sharing them with Nora and company.
